Most wood is sealed with a resinous seal. To test if your seal's
condition (and whether you have one), put a drop of water in an
inconspicuous spot.
1) If the water soaks in right away and leaves a darkened spot, the
wood has little or no seal. Avoid water on it. Use a solution of wood
cleaner, dampen a cleaning cloth and wipe the surface. You can't deep
clean this wood.
2) If the drop doesn't soak in, let it sit a few minutes. If it has partially
soaked in then, wood is sealed but not fully protected. Use wood
cleaner, apply lightly with sponge and let sit a moment and wipe dry
with cleaning cloth.
3) If the drop doesn't soak in at all even after a while, wood is well
sealed. Clean thoroughly with wood cleaner to deep clean.
After cleaning any type of wood, use furniture polish with carnauba
wax for shine and protection.
