Floors: Sweeping. Don't weep! Now you can sweep like a pro. Get out all that junk
from your floors. Whistle while you work and it's done in no time.
Here's how:
Please read this first.
-
You need a broom, a dust mop and a vacuum.
-
Pick the right broom: look for one with stiff bristles, feathered (split)
bristle ends, and an angle cut. Angle cut lets you sweep standing away
and get into corners. If you get a broom without feathered ends, the
bristles shouldn't be stiff. A swivel head and entension are nice too.
-
For large areas, concrete and outdoor sweeping, use a push broom. Like
the pro cleaners, use a broom with a brace, and get bristles with
combination hard and soft bristles to get both big pieces and fine sand
and dust. 18 inches is good around the house.
-
You need a treated dust mop for all hard-surface floors. It has a swivel
head to keep the dirt edge forward.
-
A counter broom is very useful for small jobs - on the counter, floor,
stairs. Keep it handy. It usually comes with a dustpan as a set.
-
So start sweeping. Clear out furniture if you can, then sweep
everything into ONE pile (not two or ten). Push it all into a dustpan
and dump into the trash. For carpet, you'll have to vacuum, going back
and forth in a zigzag Z pattern over the carpet.
