Part six of sixteen
Leadership in human social organization originally mirrored that of other primates --  it was matriarchal, with male territorial �war alphas� under direction of the female group, an organizational strategy still observable in the wild today.  At the tail end of socio-political evolution, humans edged away from total gynocracy, with the matriarchies, under queenship or priestesses, appointing year-kings � who were annually slaughtered, just in case anyone wondered who was really in charge.

�Patriarchy� is an extremely recent innovation of humans, and within the variants of �patriarchy,� matriarchy is always conserved.  The idea that women in any human culture were ever powerless is an ideological tool, a fictive weapon.  The matriarchies were mytho-psychic kinship gyneocracies, not complex technological polities like the later patriarchies.

In matriarchy, power is invested in, and exercised through, psychological subservience and the unquestioned assumption of female moral and spiritual superiority.  Under matriarchal social organization, female ownership of children, and of the male body, is a given.  Maleness exists for use by the feminine, having no intrinsic value.

Female violence upon male genitalia in popular comedy is a semi-conscious externalization of this assumption.  So is circumcision � itself a sublimation of earlier, far more brutal blood-rites � which is why Mom, not Dad, ever insists upon it.

As America so elegantly proves, the fact that a modern nation-state is �led� by males has little bearing on the relative power of genders within that society.  North America�s regression to matriarchy in the past four decades occurred under titular male leadership.

Eventually, the American Empire will attempt to force zero-tolerance matriarchy on the planet with the same fundamentalist fervor it stamped out brotherhood in North America.

Authentic elements of masculinity in the West have been without representation for almost half a century.  Thus the West flounders from scandal to corruption to assassination to outrage.  We are a hollow, spiritually bereft people.  Demagogues, corporate shills and neo-matriarchs will not suffice for a nation in such a hellish State.

Masculinity is exiled.  But Plato�s Philosopher Kings may inject raw
spiritus into the fevered sickness of the body politic, light into the murk of American Hades.

Many of the occult, or heretic, traditions in the West � and some of the exoteric traditions also � are alchemical coagulations over the millennia of the Philosopher King.  The Philosopher King is alchemy�s
Mercurius duplex, uniting the political State with the framework of Eternity.

In the world of the ancient solar heroes, there was no Internet for Logos on Earth to fly -- only the Great Mojo of
gnosis.  Politics and philosophy, polis and spiritus, remained separate, as befits development under the opposites: to Caesar, Caesar, and to God, God, as the Nazarene solar-king once remarked.

But the species now returns to source, both in psychology and social organization.  The West bears the bulk of this transformative stress.  The opposites are distended and highly antagonistic, the forge of creativity violent and bright. 

In the
Republic, Plato declares that what James Joyce, two thousand years later, called the �nightmare of history� is doomed to continue until and unless a fundamental paradox can be contained between the body politic and the eternal, between the earthly king and the shaman.  Plato calls for a marriage between Augustus and John the Baptist, between Machiavelli and the archangel.  He calls such an amalgam a Philosopher King.

Much later, in the same tradition, alchemists called them Philosopher Sons, the
filius under myriad surname.

Popular music is full of covert allusions to them, and to their role in effecting the
coniunctio oppositum through ascent and descent phenomena.  (Hear, for example, John Fogerty�s �Have You Ever Seen the Rain?� the Beatles� �I Am the Walrus,� Jim Morrison�s �Break on Through (To the Other Side),� or Bob Dylan�s �Changing of the Guards.�

The Beatles, in particular, moved their quaternary consciousness � and the consciousness of the modern West, especially of the masculine -- very far, very fast.  Consciousness and culture leap forward by springing off regression to source, and the Sixties began a chthonic backlash of the first order.

Of all modern recording artists, the Beatles were
maestros of coniunctio.  The Eternal Boys were psychopompi for enormous gender shifts in the West.  Recall that in 1965, the na�ve moptops were singing �I�d rather see you dead, little girl, than to be with another man.�

By 1967, they were penning paeans to the Queen of Heaven.  Quantum.

Hyperspeed in consciousness implies direct intervention.  Despite the infamous allusion to LSD in �Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds� the song in primarily inspired by � and about � the apocalyptic �star-crowned lady� who weaves in and out of the Western esoteric tradition.  She is the striptease of our collective unconscious.

But �the girl with kaleidoscope eyes� was well known long before either guitars or LSD were synthesized.  �Lucy� is the Queen of Heaven, the elevated Kore, diamond stars her crown.  In alchemy she signifies the eschaton, with matter raised to heaven, and heaven to Earth.
