Jacques Villeneuve has fought back against Jenson Button's criticism after the pair clashed during the Australian Grand Prix.

1997 Champion Villeneuve accused Button of being 'weak' for publicly criticising him after the Canadian mistakenly pitted on Button's lap. Later it was explained Villeneuve suffered from radio problems.

"I was highly disappointed to be blasted by my team mate in the media - when after he came out of the car he was all smiles and shaking hands," Villeneuve told BBC Radio Five Live.

"I found that a bit weak to be honest, but I guess that's what I have to cope with now - a weak team mate," Villeneuve added.

"I think it's important for a driver to be self-critical before he starts blaming everyone else," Villeneuve went on. "If you spend your career thinking about what might have been then you never achieve anything and that is a little bit what has happened though Jenson's career."

Villeneuve went on to say that he will have discussions with the team and Button to make sure such disputes are not conducted though the media again, but he holds out little hope that the two will 'kiss and make up.'
