.::Religious themes...
    The third season's sixteenth and seventeeth episodes, "Drowning On Dry Land" and "Some Kind of Miracle" contain several significant religious or spiritual references. The story is that there has been a horrific ferry disaster. While assisting the injured, Meredith ends up falling into the water. After a while, she just stops trying to save herself and gives up. In the hospital she stops breathing and at this point she wakes up in what appears to be something like limbo. She meets several characters who have died during the show. What is interesting about this is that Meredith is not a spiritual person. She is strictly a believer in science and medicine, so to have her in an afterlife shows that she might have a belief in something.
    When her the other interns find out that Meredith may die, they have very different reactions. It seems that some may not have the faith in science that they once did, while Izzie states that she believes that Meredith will pull through. Her comments come across in a spiritual context as well as in a manner that shows us she has faith in the doctors.
