.::Can there be a happy medium?
Is it possible for a doctor or medical professional to find common ground between both believing in the power of science and also believing in the power of spirituality? The doctors of Grey's Anatomy each have their own set of beliefs. Their actions involving patients and their own personal situations show exactly what position they take. Whether it is Cristina, who is a true follower of science; or Izzie, who has a definite spiritual side and believes in a greater power outside of the realm of medecine, it could be God or just plain love. Both angles are able to work together for the good of the patient. Even if one of the interns does not agree with their ideals, they still do what is good for the patient's body and soul.
This idea of dissolving the conflict between science and faith can also be found in the real world. Dr. Francis S. Collins, the director of the Human Genome Project, has found that these two different ideas can co-mingle. A doctor must think with the spirit as well as the mind, and the ability to do this requires a leap of faith. There are many explanations for the ultimate questions of how life was created, and each answer can be equally embraced.
