SHARON  OR  PHARAON

Milleniums come and go but human nature remains the same. Human beings are bounded and chained by the same 24 hour days, the same sun, moon and stars, the same air they breathe, and the same force of gravity which keeps them tightly bound to the mother earth.

Under these circumstances it is but natural and obvious that history must repeat itself. And, foolish man does it unconciously because he fails to learn from history or religion.

Take the case of Ariel Sharon. He is doing EXACTLY what Pharaon was doin 3250 years back. Pharaon was subjugating the children of Israel (Beni Israel) which was the cause and reason for the EXODUS which is part and parcle of their religious history.

Yes, the Exodus did take place. But wait. What happened to Pharaon and his horde? If you have time, then see the film "Ten Commandments".

While on this film, I am reminded of an incident in 1996. I was talking to a senior citizen who was lamenting on the fact that we Muslims lack technology, equipment etc. I told him that we do not need anything but a strong faith like Moses, who had only a staff with which he drowned the Pharaon.

He retorted that I was talking of Prophets and miracles. I said that :" I wanted you to retort. Now, tell me, what did Gandhi have, except a staff,  with which he brought down the Pharaon-like mighty British Empire?" My answer floored him and he sank in the sofa he was sitting on and fell in a pensive and reflective mood.

Talking of films, about half a century back, I saw a film "Fall of the Roman Empire" in my schol days. I still remember the last scene in which an elderly senator laments that empires are not defeated by outter forces, but that they "rot from within".

Enron, Worldcom, Global Crossing and Tyco International, etc are just the begining. They have eclipsed 9/11. May the Lord help us all. Ameen.
