BUDDHAS OF BAAMIYAN 

There is a massive outcry around the world against the

Taliban for embarking on the demolition of all idols

in their country including the towering Buddhas of

Baamiyan .

It is alright for the East and South Asian nations

including India to make a hue and cry because for all

practical purposes they are still idol-worshipers. But

for the Christian West to criticize the Taliban's

actions does not make sense. The basis of belief of

the Western Christian Society is  "The Holy Bible" and

nothing else.

Although the Old and New Testaments contain plenty of

statements against idol-worship, a few quotes from

Deuteronomy should be enough to bring the point home.

Deut: 4.15-19,23,25,28;

For your own sake, therefore, be most careful ___

since you saw no shape when the Lord your God spoke to

you at Horeb out of the fire___ not to  act wickedly

and make for yourselves a sculptured image in any

likeness whatever: the form of a man or a woman ____

any beast --- any winged bird ___anything that creepps

on the ground___ any fish that is in waters____ the

sun and the moon and the stars___ you must not be

lured into bowing down to them or serving them-----

For the Lord, your God is a consuming fire, an

impassioned God, Should you act wickedly and make for

yourselves a sculptured image in any likeness, causing

your God displeasure and vexation___ you shall soon

perish___ you shall be utterly wiped out. The Lord

will scatter you__ there you will serve man-made gods

of wood and stone that cannot see or hear or eat or

smell.

Deut: 5.8-9:

You shall not make for yourself a sculptured image,

any likeness of what is in the havens above, or on the

earth below, or in the waters below down the earth,

you shall not bow down to them or  serve them. For I

the Lord your God am an impassioned god.

Deut:12.2-3:

You must destroy all the sties at which the nations

you are to dispossess worshiped their gods, whether on

LOFTY MOUNTAINS AND ON HILLS OR ANY LUXURIANT TREE.

TEAR DOWN THEIR ALTARS, SMASH THEIR PILLARS, PUT THEIR

SACRED POSTS TO THE FIRE, AND CUT DOWN THE IMAGES OF

THEIR GODS, OBLITERATING THEIR NAME FROM THAT SITE.

Deut : 27.15:

Cursed be anyone who makes sculptured or molten image

abhorred by the Lord, a craftsman's handiwork, and

sets it up in secret____.

In the light of the above Holy Scriptures what right

have the "Christian West" to criticize the Talibans?

Are the Christians not inviting the wrath of God

Almighty in whom all of us believe and hold His

Commandments dear to our heart? ? ?

May Almighty give ALL OF US the courage and wisdom to

do His bidding like the Talibans are doing .And good

luck and Godspeed to the Talibans. Amen.
