15 July 2005 - Negative Vibes I have this premonition that something unpleasant will be transpired soon.
****** 15 July 2005 - Congitive Abilities The Top 10 most played songs for this week are out! "Inside Your Heaven" remains unchallenged at No.1. And No.2 goes to a not-so-new song, but recently I just found it nice, so I started to listen to "Ou Ruo La" quite often. Haha. And as expected, Akon's "Bananza (Belly Dancer)" takes the third position and I would predict this song to be No.1 next week. Haha. And surprise surprise, Huang Yi Da's "Set Me Free" rebounds into the Top 10 again.
Anyway, something weird happened to me this morning and I shouldn't reveal. Haha. I'm seriously fine. Just thinking of some simple stuff, which led me to probe deeper and deeper, then I realised more and more.. That's about it lah.
****** 14 July 2005 - German Bridge II Today we had another few games of German Bridge. Started with a 5-player game, which included me, Jonathan, Eugene, Edwin and Jimmy. It's Edwin's first German Bridge game and the 14-round game kicked off not-so-well for me. Practically I was always 3rd, 4th or 5th. After 13 rounds (1 round left), for the first time, Edwin took the lead in the close-contested match with 85 points and I was last with 72 points. And Edwin didn't fair well for the last round and because the scores were very close, he dropped from 1st to 4th, while Jimmy, who was second place previously, became the champion. And I was lucky enough to gather enough points to finish 3rd, and Jonathan got 2nd and Eugene got 5th.
Then Edwin and Jimmy left and Jonathan, Eugene and me played a 3-player game. Previously Jonathan thrashed both of us with a score of 324 and this time, not even a person reached 100! It turned out to be because we were more cunning as we try to make one another 'explode', especially me.. Haha. 17 rounds. Eugene gained an early lead and after 7 rounds, Eugene had 39 points (that's like 5 points per round only..), Jonathan 28, and me 5. Then Jonathan broke free from the 2 of us again at the 10th round, but Eugene started to win and after 16 rounds (1 round to go), Eugene had 94, Jonathan 80, and me a miserable 22. Despite scoring 46 points at the final round, I had to settle for 3rd place. Final score: Eugene 90, Jonathan 79, me 68.
Was playing Contract Bridge at Yahoo!Games yesterday and knowing the way the score was counted made the game more exciting. To put it simply, it's based on the best of 3 games. So the side that wins 2 games gets 500 points and the side with the most points win. So my side won the first game, and the opponents won the second game and then we won the third one. With an additional of 500 points, we won 910-820. (Could have gotten thrashed if it was the opponent side that got the 500 points.. Lol.)
It's 30 days more to the start of the Premiership!!! Can't wait to see Blackburn play... Now that have signed Craig Bellamy, people on the message boards started to include Blackburn into the list of clubs vying for European qualification. Lol. Anyway, I'm off to more Bridging!
****** 13 July 2005 - Untitled Today's GP lesson was fun! At one point, Miss Su was terrifying us with all the gruesome murders and macabre events which took place during WWII in Poland. And shortly, we got to laugh our hearts out hearing Edwin's presentation, which really flummoxed me.
Got to see the breakdown of the recent Further Maths block test results for S3. Our class scored the lowest among the 6 classes, with an average mark of 38.8 and 16 out of 24 failed. (Worse than Physics, which had 14 failures.) Anyway, S32 was the best with an average score of 52. And it turned out that I was the only A in my class (14 out of 132 in the faculty scored A though), with no Bs. Of course I was happy. I believe with teachers like Miss Ding and Mr Kho, we definitely will do well eventually in the As. :)
Interesting to note was the cut-off scores for remedial. Physics was 40 and below. Chemistry was 50 and below (because generally everyone faired better). F Maths was 33 and below.
Anyway, I was glad to finish the whole Statistics 13.1 last night. Took 3 hours 20 minutes (2040h to 0000h) for the 7 questions. Not as difficult as I've thought but the working was tedious plus writing the lengthy conclusions was frustrating. If only there were keyboards provided! Let me digress, was reading the Digital Life (the one attached to The Straits Times) yesterday and saw the contestant in Eye For A Guy 2 - Howard, and he said his typing speed was 150 words per minute! That's like bullet train!
Another incident reported on the paper - the NKF debacle. The news didn't come as a surprise to me, with that guy earning 600k in a year, and the $990 gold tap was really preposterous. Fortunately, I didn't call a single time in my life to NKF before. Yeah, I'm stingy, callous, etc. Haha. At least I didn't sponsor that guy the first class ride on the plane. And yes, there's the 3rd installment of the NKF Cancer Charity this evening - let's hope the number of calls received will be ZERO! Haha. But I know it won't happen because Singaporeans are a generous bunch, plus emotional, plus forgiving, plus..kiasu for the cash rewards? Whatever.
Time to stop my crapping and get ready to watch Jue Dui Superstar!
****** 12 July 2005 - German Bridge Haha. Learnt how to play German Bridge today, thanks to Eugene! German Bridge is more like Spades rather than Floating/Contract Bridge. And I like the variety and the progressive formation of the 17 rounds. Very interesting.
What's more exciting is that during the 17 rounds, there's always a chance to bounce back and overtake your opponent(s). So after school, Jonathan, Eugene and I went to play. (It's a 2-4 player game by the way.) I started off well and after the first 4 rounds, I had 30 points with Jonathan at 18 and Eugene at 5.
But Jonathan the pro started to gain points in successive rounds and after 11 rounds, he was thrashing us at 176 points, while I had 110 and Eugene was lagging far behind at 30. Then somehow, I just couldn't win, and thus leading to Jonathan increasing his lead and Eugene closing the gap.
That got me agitated and excited (the feeling's very shiok!) when after 15 rounds (2 more rounds to go) and the scoreboard read: Jonathan 266, Me 130, Eugene 116. And fortunately I prevented Eugene from taking the last set in the last round. And the final scores after 17 rounds stood: Jonathan 324, Relf 145, Eugene 114. (If Eugene had won the last set in the last round, it would have been Relf 148, Eugene 150 - that's how close!)
Anyway, the 17 rounds lasted 50 minutes and that's good because you know that's the time to go home and study! :P
Hmm, went to Yahoo! to find German Bridge and the result I got was absymal. There wasn't any rules or how to play German Bridge sort of thing, but at least there's existence of such a game from all the blog entries which Yahoo! has churned out as search results. Hmm, that means lots of Singaporeans play German Bridge.
Out of curiosity (and passion for learning), went to read up on scoring of Contract Bridge. Haha. Because I play Bridge (there's only Contract there) on Yahoo!Games occasionally and I never knew how they calculated the scores and things like that. Realised Contract Bridge is very short game indeed! With sufficient points, the WHOLE contract bridge can be completed in 2 games! :P (As in bid, play, bid, play and finish) But the scoring is very complicated and I found it hard to memorise all the awarding of points - but at least I understood.
Actually I was in high spirits last night and this morning because I did something that made myself happy! Haha. Had been pondering since Sunday on whether I should do Statistics 13.1 or Magetism or NMR Spectroscopy tutorial and in the end did neither of the 3. And yesterday I made up my mind to do Statistics 13.1 during the day, but when I came home, I decided to do NMR Spectroscopy. Haha. Spent 3 full hours solving just 5 questions. Haha.
So today I should work on Statistics 13.1 - 4 questions will be sufficient for tomorrow. Came up with my rough plan of revision for the Prelims - done in my head during bus rides and the few minutes on the bed before falling asleep and 'stoning' moments. I'm often deep in thought when you see me stoning - don't like to waste precious time mah.
Been spending less time on Aardwolf - that's a good sign and it augurs optimism for my Prelims and As. Only levelled 5 times since the Youth Day holiday, when I could do up to 10 levels in a days.
Guess that's about it. (Rather long entry, heh!)
****** 9 July 2005 - Craig Bellamy! Blackburn have signed Craig Bellamy from Newcastle for 5 million pounds! Was expecting Craig Bellamy to go to more elite clubs like Celtic or Everton, but Mark Hughes was able to convince Bellamy to join Blackburn though the wage was only 30,000 pounds per week (10,000 less than what he got in Newcastle). Now, I'm more optimistic over Blackburn's chances to do well for the coming season, starting mid-August.
And Newcastle have started to look tattered to me, with players like Bellamy, Robert, Aaron Hughes, Ambrose, etc gone and Bowyer will be leaving in no time as well. What players have Newcastle left with? None of my business anyway! :P
****** 8 July 2005 - London Rocks Week 27's Top 10 is out! This week sees English songs occupying the top 3 spots. The winner goes to the winner of Americal Idol 4 - Carrie Underwood, whose new single "Inside Your Heaven" has just been released. "Complicated" and "What's Your Name?" both hop 1 place up from last week to No.2 and No.3 respectively. And the song from drama serial "You Fu" comes up at No.4. And last week's champion "Xiao Fu Qi" tumbles to No.5. Not much new songs recently, and I'm starting to get bored listening to the same list over and over again. Lol.
Yesterday's terrorist attack in London came as a shock to me and London really rocked! Thankfully, Singapore has always been a vigilant nation and safety and security measures are always enforced. And straight after the bombing yesterday, everyone in my brother's camp had to be alert and they weren't allowed to sleep last night - must guard the place. Then those that left at 1700h had to book in again! Indeed, Singapore has adopted a 'play-safe' strategy.
Anyway, I managed to finish "Radioactivity" and "Electrochem II" tutorials yesterday - my first tutorials since last term. Haha. Because I didn't do any tutorials in the June holidays mah. Already lagged behind in Mechanics but I will use this weekend to catch up.
Played bridge with Jonathan, Eugene and Edwin after school today. Won 3 out of 7. That's so poor.. Need to improve lor. Sometimes I just can't believe how lousy I am with Bridge after playing for almost 4 years! Yet my Spades is so pro though I learnt it last year.
Was telling my dad last night that my Physics jumped from a D to C. Anyway, though he didn't really praise me, I sort of sensed that he was proud of my performance for this block test - actually it was only the FM that made the grades look nice, because the other 3 were expected. Then my mum and my brother were really jubilant when I told them my results. Somehow, happiness seemed to be more infectious than what I've thought. So I was really happy that I brought joy into their lives, no matter how long or short it would be, I felt great!
Getting A for Further Maths this time really changed a lot on how I looked at things. I'm now more self-confident and ambitious, and slightly complacent (that's my nature) and I will continue to work hard and hopefully I will do very well for my Prelims and A Levels. :)
****** 7 July 2005 - A.A.B.C. Physics (Revised)
Prediction: C
Needed another 0.5 mark to push the percentage over to C and I made it. Haha. Now my grade looks nicer. Is it the nicest in class? :P
Was rather horrified to see that our class' average score for Physics is 43. And that 15 people (out of 24) failed! Haiz. I wish Mr Goh can be stricter but he doesn't seem to think we fair badly for the block test. Too friendly and nice I guess.
Somehow, everyone around seemed to be putting in extra effort, either mugging like hell, or finishing tutorials at lightspeed.. Was wondering if the grades caused this frenzy or was it just a catalyst involved in the reaction? Anyway, I seemed to slacken quite a lot and hopefully, I can get started with tutorials as soon as possible.
****** 6 July 2005 - 9.81 My results are falling paper after paper... That's sort of scary. From 88 in Maths to 73 in Further Maths to 68 in Chemistry.. And now.. Physics
Prediction: C
My Physics seemed to be very consistent. 58 for Block Test last year, 57 for Promos, and this time round, it's 57 again. Since 58 is C, I will try to find 1 more mark to make my overall grade look better. :P
Couldn't be disappointed, considering there wasn't anyone who got A in my class. Highest was Zhe Ren with 69, a B. Then our Physics Rep, Terence, 61. Think our class' Physics has become really awful since Mr Goh took over this year. I think he teaches well, but the fault lies in that he's too nice and sui-bian already. He simply allows students to pon his classes with impunity. And sometimes, attendance can be as low as 7. What to do?
To think our class was the only class that had 100% passing rate for Physics Promos in the level last year, this time round, the statistics of our passing rate will surely be real horrifying. And thanks to my tuition teacher, my MCQ got 13 out of 15 correct. :)
Anyway, did I forget to thank Mr Kho and Miss Ding for being such great teachers - they are really good! And Mrs Foo as well, for the constant motivation and encouragement and oh yes, she said we should start revising for Prelims...NOW! :P
With my results plummeting at 9.81 ms-2, I'm starting to get nervous over what GP results I would be getting.
****** 5 July 2005 - And The Tribe Has Spoken Got back 3 papers - Mathematics, Further Mathematics and Chemistry. And I'm very very proud to announce the results. Mathematics
Prediction: More than 80
Nothing much to comment about for this paper, except that I would have scored well past 90 if I wasn't careless, but oh well, I'm more than happy! (So far I only know Eugene got 87 and Terence got 86, anyone in the class higher? :P That's my first A in the bag! Further Mathematics
Prediction: D
Breakdown: 14/21 for Analysis, 28/40 for Mechanics, 31/39 for Statistics. My brother and I really have the same genes because both our Statistics really rock. (And what's more shocking is that he's better than me.) I didn't expect 28 for Mechanics (was expecting 16-18) so that A really came as a tremendous shock to me.
Actually I think I'm really very lucky lah, practically all I attempted were correct. No careless mistakes at all. That only happens once in a blue moon, so I still have to work harder for my Prelims and As. But one good thing is that I finally prove to myself that getting A for Further Mathematics is not impossible - used to have that thinking all the time till today.
Also, so far the closest to me I know is Howe Li - 59. Another higher than me in the class? :P Chemistry
Prediction: B
I'm correct! And Terence lost his bet because he said I would get A. :P
No doubt, there was a tinge of disappointment especially when I got only 21/30 for MCQ. And I would say, my slipshot strategy costed my A. Organic Chemistry was very well done for Section B and C - 33.5/40, but the other 3 topics which I didn't study much (read 30 June's entry) got me 12.5/30 for the remaining of Section B and C.
Anyway, it's not the A Levels yet so the results aren't that important. For those that did well, congratulations and well done. For those that didn't, there's still time. Cheer up and start working! :) Now I hope my above-average results won't be defiled by GP and Physics. (I'm more worried about my GP.) *crossing my fingers*
****** 4 July 2005 - Youth Day I thought I ought to start blogging, or else I will start to abandon the site. Haha.
Sadly, five days of fun and relaxation came and gone. Tomorrow's the start of the usual term, and life will resemble a ride on a bullet train. Ah, how cool! Anyway, these five days were more tiring physically as compared to the days of block tests. Wake up early in the morning, first thing - Aardwolf. After lunch, Aardwolf. And for a change, after dinner, television. Lol.
What to do? Lots of catching up to do because the four days of block testsmade me lag behind others. Not that it mattered, but competitive Relf just didn't feel good. And so within the 5 days, I levelled 29 times! (That's crazier compared to 115 levels during the 30 days of holiday.)
And what made me happy was that I won a global quest! Global quests weren't easy to win because it's just like a competition among the realm. And I won it because I was the only participant at that time. Lol. So I became the 1996th player in the MUD to win a global quest.
Hmm, was doing the usual calculation of how many hours I spent on doing this and that, and I realised I spent more than 40 hours on the computer in just 5 days!!! (And The Straits Times said an average teenager spends about 2 hours online per day.) Haha. Then next would be watching the televison - almost 20 hours!!! That's amazing for a person who didn't have the habit of touching the television.
Frankly speaking, I think I have 'over-played', 'over-enjoyed', and 'over-slacked'. And I guess my parents are going to slaughter me liao - I mean how is it like seeing your son typing and typing on the keyboard for the whole day? Actually, relaxation has its limits and I think I should have done some work during this period and not spend all the time playing. Anyway, I shall redeem myself by working hard for the rest of the term and also cutting down the time spent on Aardwolf.
Hopefully if everything goes as planned, I should be anticipating an ABCD + C6 and I'm very satisfied with that. :)
****** 1 July 2005 - Aardwolf Down! How come? Just as I thought I could level like crazy during this period but Aardwolf went *poof* at about 1000h in the morning!!!
So sian, now I have nothing to do except blogging. That's what happens when one only indulges in one game. Haha. Should I continue to wait till Aardwolf's up again? Usually, it takes about an hour but it's 1330h already!!! Or should I start CM? Or Runescape? Or Gunbound? *confused*
****** 1 July 2005 - Pizza Hut/Initial D/N.Y.D.C And my small little chart is once again updated - and for the first time, Ou De Yang's song is No.1!!! While last week's No.1 - Energy's Yan Lei De Wei Dao is no where to be found.
Anyway, the class went out yesterday and I'm sure the country bear will be dying to learn of all the details since he missed out on it. Anyway, we went to Pizza Hut for lunch - the students' set lunch was rather cheap ($6.95++) then we slacked in Orchard before watching Initial D. The girls wanted to Initial D so "War of the Worlds' lost though I would prefer to watch 'War of the Worlds' if I had to choose, but I'm quite sui-bian lor.
Then after that we went N.Y.D.C to eat dinner before everyone went home happily! Haha. Lol. Nothing much lah. Hope next time can go someone's house and havoc, instead of wandering around Orchard Road.. Lol. And I think I won't be able to realise my wish of playing mahjong during this break.. Haiz.. How come the HC block test end at Tuesday? :(
Meanwhile, Aardwolf shall be my play-mate as I attempted to recover my ranks lost. After 5 days of absence, I dropped from 1246th to 1248th - argh!!! Will work on that!
