Jess slammed the door so loud that Jonesy glanced at the window pane to see if it had broken Jess didn't stop to say hello. He made a bee line to his bedroom.
"You know, Jess," Jonesy said as he ambled into the bedroom after him, "when you signed on a few weeks ago, I guess I should have mentioned a rule I have around here. A fellow's got to keep his clothes on, at least during the day. Now at night, I don't mind if he wants to sleep in his long johns. I've done that once or twice myself. But during the day, well, it's just polite you know to stay dressed, especially since we got the stage coming in and out of here. Them passengers may not be as tolerable as I am, especially the ladies."
"Jonesy!" Jess growled. "This ain't funny."
"Well I know you were wearing clothes when you left here this morning. I'm a might curious how a fellow could lose his clothes?"
"I didn't lose! She-" Jess buttoned his shirt as if he were waging war with each button.
"She?...oh. Well, I got me another rule. If you're going to romance a gal-"
"I wasn't romancing. She up and stole my clothes."
"Stole them, did she? How did she get them off of you?"
"She didn't! I-" Jess tucked in his shirt. "This ain't over."
Jonesy nodded. "Seems to me you should have heard of the expression, don't get caught with your pants down."
"I didn't have them down! I had them off!"
"So you were walking around without any clothes? Or was it just your pants?"
Jess took a deep breath, trying to calm his temper. "I weren't wearing nothing 'cause I went swimming."
"I thought you couldn't swim."
"I can't!"
"Let me see if I got this straight. This gal stole your clothes, which you already had off 'cause you went swimming even though you can't swim. Sounds logical... To me that is. But Slim..., I don't know if he's gonna understand like me. That's 'cause I'm an understanding fellow. Even when I don't understand."
