Background:
___Born on Blue Hole to a well to do family, her father was a diplomat and her
mother didn't work. During the early part of her life she traveled quite
often with her parents as they were sent to various planets to negotiate
trade treaties. The Fourth Succession War had finished and the Federated
Commonwealth was doing well. During this time Laura decided that she wanted
to travel when she was older, but she also realized that she could not
follow in her father's footsteps, however she could join the military. Thus
from an early age she knew she wanted to be a MechWarrior, whenever
possible she would play mech sims.
___When she was twelve she was sent to preparatory school, her father still
hoped she would join the Diplomatic Corps. But Laura spent all her time
studying mechs and sneaking time in the cadet simulators. She finished
school with poor grades except for any martial subjects (Military History
etc). But this would be good enough to get her into a military academy,
however at this point her father stepped in and, realizing what his daughter
wanted most, he managed to wangle her entry to Nagelring.
___Here she excelled, consistently she was top of her class, and her ability in
a mech was hard to beat. She was quickly put forward for officer training as
well as MechWarrior training.
___After five years at Nagelring she finished top of her class and held the
rank of Lieutenant.
___She was stationed with the 5th Donegal Guards RCT and given command of a
medium lance, piloting a captured Kurita Wolverine WVR-7K. In 3049 her lance and the rest of Bravo Company
were sent to Halifax to combat periphery pirates. Laura soon started to show
her skills, even her company commander John Steinman was impressed, as her
lance racked up an impressive record. Then the Clans arrived and everything
changed. Bravo Company was recalled to the regiment Benet III and then they
were sent in to face Clan Jade Falcon. It was a total disaster the
regiment took 47% losses and only just managed to get off of the planet.
Laura was then transferred to the 3rd Lyran Guards RCT. It was very apparent
different tactics were required to combat these Jade Falcons. Over the next
couple of years they refined these tactics while defending worlds around
Graceland. During this time Laura was promoted to company XO and then, after
the battalion commander was killed, she took over the company, as the
Company commander was promoted to battalion command.
___Then came the battle of Tukayyid when Comstar halted the Clan progress and
an uneasy peace settled over the region. Also during the time came the
fragmenting of the Federated Commonwealth but Laura didn't really take much
notice, as long as the Clans were sitting on the doorstep who cared what the
military was called. While some were muttering in favour of Katherine or
Victor, Laura kept running the company. Then in 3058 came the reformation of
the Star League and Operation Bulldog. When Laura found out about the plan
to eliminate the Smoke Jaguars she immediately applied for a transfer to the
10th Lyran Guard so she could take part in the largest military operation to
take place in the Inner Sphere. Although she had to revert to being a lance
commander Laura was accepted.
___In 3059 fighting on Schuyler Laura's Wolverine was hit by a Clan ER Large
Laser to the head, she suffered major burns over her body and when the
majority of the task-force left to follow Morgan towards Huntress, Laura
returned to Lyran space to convalesce. She was transferred back to the Lyran
Guards. Katrina always looking for good publicity decided that Laura's
action deserved rewarding. Especially as this would allow her to distract
the media from Victor's stunning success. So Laura was awarded the Alliance
Star for Valour and given the mech she had piloted for so long, now fully
repaired. Also as is normal with the award she was given the title of
Baronet and a small land grant on Blue Hole. Laura accepted the honour but
she also realized that her military career in the LAAF was probably over for
having served with Victor she knew she would be branded as being pro-Victor.
So she resigned her commission and went home where she joined the Blue Hole
Militia waiting for news of the task force like everyone else in the Inner
Sphere.
