A recent publication of music for Bagpipes
- from the Scottish Borders

Compiled and published by Drew Ness of Galashiels in the Scottish Borders the book contains fifty five tunes most of which are original compositions and previously unpublished.

Included are thirty of his own compositions as well as the works of several other local composers in this first venture into music publication.

Many of the tunes are named after local characters or places within the Scottish Borders a number of which feature in the "Common Ridings" and summer festivals of the region.

Historical Comment

The word "REIVER" in the book title is synonymous with the Scottish Borders and is very much a part of the heritage and history of that region. It comes from the Anglo-Saxon word 'refian' meaning to plunder which evolved into reave or reive.
The Border Reivers were military structured bands of ruffians who from around the thirteenth to early seventeenth centuries kept the borders of England and Scotland in a state of bedlam and general mayhem with their pillaging, thieving, rustling and murder.
