| One of Albury�s best-known business men, Mr George Reis, died suddenly at his home �Milton� Guinea St., at 12.30 p.m. yesterday at the age of 59 years.
Mr Reis had been in indifferent health since the death of his son, Ted, who was killed on active service, but his death came as a shock to his friends. A zealous worker for the good of Albury, Mr Reis took a keen interest in all spheres of sport and was a committeeman of the Albury Racing Club for 20 years. He was one of the founders of St Patrick�s Football Club and North Albury Tennis Club, and a prominent member of the Albury Bowling Club. All other sports received his active support. Mr Reis has been in business in Albury for many years and only a few months ago disposed of his business to the Producers� Co-Operative Distributing Society. Following the death of his brother, Mr Charles Reis, Mr Reis took his seat on the committee of the Albury Chamber of Commerce until forced to retire owing to ill-health. Mr Reis was a prominent member of the Catholic community, taking a leading part in all activities, including the Newtown Orphanage. He was also a member of the Holy Name Society and the Fathers� Association. He is survived by his widow daughter Jean, and son, Brian, who is at present in New Guinea; also one sister, Mrs J. F. Hannan of Melbourne. After a Requiem Mass at 9 o�clock, burial will take place in the Catholic portion of the Albury cemetery at 9.45 this morning. J. S. Adams and Sons have charge of arrangements. |
