Namaste

The above greeting is most often used in Reiki at the end of an attunement and in Reiki correspondence. It comes from two Sanskrit words - Namas, which means 'to bow' and Te, which means 'to you'. In Reiki Namaste is usually interpreted as "The Divine (God) in me greets the Divine (God) in you." More about the word Namaste can be found on the web page. www.flex.com/~jai/articles/namaste1.html

A Blast from the Past

Back Row: Ljubomir Bosanac and Barbara Pillsbury.
Front Row: Tanmaya Honervogt, Maureen Kelly, Anka Bosanac and Pamela Miller.

EarthSend

EarthSend is a group of Reiki practitioners who send absent healing to each other and then on to the whole planet. Originally the opportunity to join Earthsend was only open to Reiki Masters. They have now extended the invitation to join to include 2nd and other 3rd Degree practitioners. You may like to pass this message on to your students. All they need do is send an email to the following address, [email protected], with EarthSend Invitation as the subject and give their name, email, country and town in that order.

Each participant in EarthSend is welcome to contribute Reiki in the style or manner that they follow. The organisers of EarthSend have no affiliations other than their love of the Reiki, their desire to be of Service, and our commitment to their own growth. EarthSend is a group that exists solely for the purpose of Reiki practitioners to connect with each other to undertake planetary and personal healing. What EarthSend practitioners do, is focus on sending energy into the group of participants, in an effort to unite us and have the Reiki flow from us as if we were one being. As we feel the connection between ourselves grow strong, we allow the focus to change from the group toward the Earth. Due to time changes in the world the timeframe for EarthSend in NZ is 8am Saturday (during daylight saving and 9am Saturday during non-daylight saving).

Reiki at the Amitabha Hospice

Reiki Practitioner Jillian MacKenzie has recently been allowed to give Reiki treatments at the Amitabha Hospice in Forrest Hill on the North Shore. The Amitabha Hospice is a Buddhist Hospice based on Buddhist philosophy. This opportunity has taken 2 years or so to manifest and is a very important step in encouraging people to use Reiki in the caring professions. Jillian would like other Reiki practitioners to share this opportunity with her.

Giving Reiki at the Hospice is on a voluntary basis and there is no payment for doing this. The exchange is the experience you get from helping and is a wonderful, caring and sharing way of gaining experience in using Reiki. This experience can help towards becoming accredited with the NZ Charter of Natural Health Practitioners. The Reiki sessions at the Amitabha Hospice are held from 10am to 2.30pm every Friday. If you and your friends are interested in being a Reiki volunteer please email: [email protected]

Nominations for the Reiki NZ Inc Committee

This is a reminder that it is time to nominate people for election to the Reiki NZ Inc Committee. You must be a current member of Reiki NZ Inc and so must the person you are nominating. Being a committee member of Reiki NZ Inc is a way of assisting Reiki in New Zealand. It is a task that should be shared among the wider Reiki community and not left to rest on the shoulders of just a few. Any lineage or degree of Reiki from anywhere in NZ can be a member of Reiki NZ Inc and can be nominated as a member of the Committee. Election of committee members can be done by postal vote or at the AGM that is held on Saturday morning at the Taupo Reiki Retreat.

Reiki NZ Inc is your society. It was formed so that Reiki could come under the umbrella of the NZ Natural Health Practitioners Charter. It does not run itself. It requires the efforts of a committee and the support of its members. If you want to be a member of Reiki NZ Inc or you want to nominate someone for the committee contact: The Secretary, Reiki NZ Inc, PO Box 60 226, Titirangi, Auckland.

Reiki at Beach

Earlier this year Darryl Marriner and his wife Jan had a little break away at Marfells Beach on Clifford Bay. The day before returning home a friend of theirs tore muscles in his lower back as he was lifting crayfish pots into his boat. When he got to the stage of "could hardly move" Darryl suggested that he and Jan could give him some relief - to this was the usual reply, "I'll try anything". So they put him up on a " standard issue " D.O.C. picnic table overlooking The Bay and beyond to Wellington heads. WoW!!! What a setting! And the energy of nature! REIKI ON THE BEACH!!! WOW DID IT WORK OR WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!! Would you believe the patient was launching his boat an hour later and going fishing with no pain.

Reiki on the Beach at Peka Peka

For just a moment we thought this Reiki Retreat would be cancelled. The owners of Sandcastle Motel extended our deadline for booking and we eventually had fourteen people want to attend. By the weekend four people had dropped out for unforeseen circumstances and ten people came to the weekend. Lots of Reiki was sent to the weather because that weekend it was predicted to be awful. Although cloudy late Friday and most of Saturday, it was calm and warm without being too hot. We were able to give ourselves Reiki treatments outside both Saturday and Sunday. The weekend included walking on the beach, Angel card readings, Reiki, playing scrabble, eating, resting, talking about Reiki and other subjects and getting to know each other.

Sandcastle Motel is just the other side of the sand dunes from the sea at Peka Peka beach on Kapiti Coast. Saturday evening some of the group went for a long walk along the beach, under a star filled sky. They found an abandoned fire in the dunes and stayed by it for a time. It felt very spiritual, awesome, and nurturing.

Hi Maureen,
Thank you again so very much for organising such a wonderful weekend for us. It was really special and I am sure the others feel the same way as I do. My thanks too to Marie for her part. You both did so very well. Love + Light, June

Hi Marie & Maureen,
A very big thank-you for hosting & organising the Reiki at the Beach weekend. It was relaxing and rewarding and provided a charge up time for soul growth. We were blessed with the weather and the many hours of food preparation that you prepared were eagerly & frequently eaten. I remember it as a "high" time and Reiki as always my true love - look forward to a repeat next year and another get together at the same place. Love Lynette

Reiki Retreat at Taupo
7, 8, 9, 10 June 2002

It is time now to think about booking for this event.

The annual Reiki Retreat that is held at the Tauhara Centre at Taupo is a great way to relax for a weekend and to get in touch with other Reiki practitioners. You can arrive at the Retreat either Friday evening or Saturday morning and leave Sunday or Monday afternoon. Accommodation is normally a very comfortable bunk in a four-bunk room with shared bathrooms facilities or you can book into a flat or cottage (at an extra cost). See www.geocities.com/nzreiki
