International Reiki Day - 15 August 2002
The year seems to have sped by since this day was celebrated last year. Put on your thinking caps and focus on what you intend to do on this Reiki Day. It is a time to say thanks to Reiki and Mikao Usui for this wonderful energy that flows through our hands. Last year people held special support groups where they had a birthday cake (because 15 August is Mikao Usui's birthday), gave demonstrations of Reiki and free 15 minute treatments, had lunch together, sent absent healing to the world and so on. Don't let this day pass unnoticed.
The 12th NZ Reiki Masters' Gathering
2nd, 3rd, & 4th November 2002 at Auckland
Auckland Reiki Masters are busy organising this year's Gathering. Information and the registration form have already been sent to those Reiki Masters with email addresses and are enclosed with this newsletter. The Reiki Masters Gathering is your opportunity to meet other Reiki Masters from around NZ and to make friends, share information or renew old friendships.

10th Anniversary of the Reiki Retreat at Taupo
6, 7, 8, 9 June 2003
Next year will be the 10th anniversary of the annual Taupo Reiki Retreat. In 1993 the Taupo Reiki Support group held their first retreat in a house they rented for the weekend on the shores of Lake Taupo. During that weekend they generously decided to open the retreat to all Reiki practitioners throughout New Zealand and to any overseas Reiki practitioners who were visiting NZ during the weekend it is held.
Not only will next year's Retreat be an opportunity for you to immerse yourself into the world of Reiki for three days it will also be an opportunity to celebrate its 10th anniversary and to enjoy what has become a national Reiki treasure in NZ.
Accommodation is normally a very comfortable bunk in a four-bunk room with shared bathroom facilities or you can book into a flat or cottage (at an extra cost).

In this book you will learn how to use this ancient technique known as Reiki for yourself and others. It also includes information about what causes problems, pain and diseases, what our subtle anatomy is, and how to grow and unfold spiritually. The book contains information about further degrees and training in Reiki, as well as the different Reiki associations.
Many of you will know Lena or have heard of her. She spent several years teaching Reiki in New Zealand before returning home to live in Sweden.

Reiki in the Gardens
This special Reiki event was held recently in the Begonia House at the Wellington Botanic Gardens. The begonia house is normally kept at a temperature of 6 degrees Celsius so everyone came along very warmly dressed for the occasion. Heaters were used to increase the temperature. The afternoon began at 4.30pm with an energy circle, guided meditations and absent healing. Then we gave and received Reiki amongst the begonias and other flowers to lilting harp music. Approximately 50 people attended the Reiki Share at the Begonia House and 25 went along to Ford's Caf� afterwards to share a meal together. It was a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon and evening and everyone appreciated being able to come together to share Reiki in such unique surroundings. It was great to see so many young people there. A brightly shirted someone has whispered that he is intending on holding another event next year - somewhere different but just as exotic.

Reiki at Wellington Hospital
Ann Ratahi has been given permission to continue providing Reiki at Wellington Hospital on the afternoons of every 2nd and 4th Thursday each month until 12th December 2002 when it will be reviewed again. They have been provided with a room to use in the Te Ao Marama building in the hospital grounds. Congratulations Ann and her team of Reiki providers. This dedicated team provide 15 minute Reiki Treatments to staff, visitors and patients at the hospital for a gold coin donation. Shinpiden Level III - Reiki Master/Teacher Course
Auckland, New Zealand - 23rd, 24th, 25th of August 2002 - Fee $1400
This Reiki Master/Teacher course will be facilitated by Frans and Bronwen, from The International House of Reiki, Australia. During this full 3 day course you will be initiated as Usui Reiki Ryoho Reiki Master/Teachers as well as Gendai Reiki Master/Teachers and receive certification for both lineages. There will be ongoing learning via email/post after the course is finished. Prerequisites for the course are either Reiki II certification (for those desiring to become Master/Teachers) or Reiki III Master/Teacher certification in another lineage (for those wishing to add to their Reiki knowledge).
Usui Reiki Ryoho and Gendai Reiki are now being taught throughout the world. These traditional methods of teaching Reiki were re-discovered in Japan only a couple of years ago. Frank Arjava Petter, Rick Rivard, Andy Bowling and Hiroshi Doi are some of the people who have brought about this re-emergence of a more traditional Japanese form of Reiki. Frans and Bronwen initially trained in the Western system, which came down through Hawaii but have since re-trained into direct lineages from Japan.
