11th NZ Reiki Masters Gathering in 2001
The venue for next years NZ Reiki Masters Gathering will be Frederic Wallis House at 12 Military Rd, Lower Hutt. The Gathering will be held from Friday 2nd November until Sunday 4th November 2001.
Frederic Wallis House is the site of NZs first spiritual labyrinth which you are recommended to walk barefoot. The House has just recently been refurbished and rooms are bright and clean. It has beds for 33 people,
conference facilities and catering on the premises. It promises to be a very special place to hold a Reiki Masters Gathering.
The NZ Reiki Masters Gathering is open to all Reiki Master/Teachers of all lineages living in New Zealand who wish to attend. Overseas Reiki Masters are also welcome to attend. The definition of Reiki Master (for this gathering) is someone who
can teach Reiki to the level of 2nd Degree. The NZ Reiki Masters Gathering has been held every year for the past 10 years.
It's aim is to promote friendship and the sharing of knowledge between Reiki Masters.
Ministry of Health Advisory Committee on Complementary and Alternative Health
The Ministry of Health is establishing a Ministerial Advisory Committee on Complementary and Alternative Health and is presently seeking applications for appointment to the Committee.
The Committee is likely to have eight members which will include: complementary health care practitioners; a mainstream clinician; a mainstream nurse; a consumer; a Maori health representative; and a Pacific health representative. They will be expected to have extensive knowledge of complementary and alternative health issues, strategic skills, credibility and health sector experience.
The committee will most likely be based in Wellington. It is expected to meet several times a year e.g. once every three months (this will be decided by the Chairperson of the Committee). The starting day will be decided once applications are processed. Members of the committee will receive payment for their services and expenses. The level of payment has yet to be decided but will be in the vicinity of $190 per day.
The key tasks expected of the Committee are:
- to provide the Minister of Health with advice and information on complementary and alternative healthcare.
- to provide advice on how complementary and alternative healthcare can improve outcomes in the priority areas signalled in the New Zealand Health Strategy.
- to provide advice on the need or otherwise to regulate complementary and alternative healthcare practitioners in order to protect consumers who use complementary healthcare.
- to provide advice on consumer information needs and in particular benefits, risks and costs of complementary and alternative therapies.
- to review overseas evidence-based research, identify priorities for the development of NZ evidence-based research on the safety and efficacy of specific natural therapies and support the development of guidelines.
- to provide advice on whether and how specific complementary and alternative practitioners should be integrated into the health system.
Applications close on 15 January 2001 and copies of the application form have already been posted to NZ Reiki Masters. (This appears to be a very important committee for complementary and alternative health and in particular for Reiki practitioners. It would be great if we could have a Reiki Master on this committee.)
