One Unfortunate Shopping Visit (a personal story)
My latest visit at Greenhills was suppose to give me satisfaction upon my plan on swapping my old cellphone for a new model. However, that visit turn out to be one unfortunate tour. And after that day, I'm not sure when I'll visit that shopping arena again.
My plans seemed working during the first hours of my stay at the cellphones stalls of Greenhills one Saturday afternoon. I was able to look for a cheap and still properly working second hand model of a Sony Ericsson phone which I planned to replace for my old one. The condition was perfect for my P3000 budget. But given that my old phone is dressed with an already unpleasant housing (fading colors, missing keys, loose battery, etc.), vendors are insisting me to change the cellphone housing first before they accept it for swapping.
So from there I started to look for stores which change housings of Sony Ericsson phones (unlike Nokia phones, SE phone housings are attached via screws, thereby requiring technicians just for installation). I saw this small stall and immediately asked for the lady in-charge for assistance. She then started to disassemble my phone and install new parts. But as I saw it, she was like out of her mind as she does her job. Who the hell would install cellphone housing parts that aren't much complementing with each one (a fading blue colored housing, violet bluetooth window, gray keypad and a easily-detaching LCD cover)! What's more, upon testing my phone, the contrast of the LCD picture changed - it was ruined! I thought then that if I accept her work (which by the way cost me P150), then I have to endure the not-so-pleasant sight of my cellphone.
Definitely, I refused her work and just asked her to return the former housing of my phone. But to my surprise, she had already hidden it and acted as if she already had them transferred to another stall for recycling. Fortunately after minutes of my insisting, she took out the original casing and installed it in my phone. After the job, she then asked me for another P150!
With nothing more to do with her, I just bought a battery. Yes, she gave me a battery. However, she gave me a battery that doesn't match my phone. She even insisted that it actually matched! Talking about customer service! So I ended my endeavor with her by giving her P500 for that very lame job.
That made me felt terribly weak. Imagine having spent P500 and ending up with a seemingly-destroyed cellphone. And imagine wasting time and ending up with nothing. With only P3500 left, it would be harder to look for a cellphone that I like.
Though the experience wasn't that really traumatizing, it still made me feel uneasy to go to that place. The incident was indeed something to be ungrateful about. And I do think it's not a good idea to visit the place for now.
