Hanging Around
Kitty stood in front of the large wooden door leading outside the X-mansion. She was really tempted to just open it. But the professer had told her specifically to always phase through this one. Of course this praticular door gave her splinters if she didn't concentrate hard. She glared at it for a few more seconds before holding her breath and carefully stepping through it. Her body came out unscathed and unpoked. She gave a silent cheer, then a yelp. The end of her heel hadn't been completly out yet. She hopped out to the lawn on one foot and pulled the little sliver of wood out. She quietly cursed the front door.
" Why Katzchen, I didn't know you knew such words."
Kitty glanced upwards at the fuzzy grinning face hanging over her.
"Oh, shut up you little... are you upside down?"
That infuriatingly cute grin again. " Ja, the Katzchen catches on."
She took a step back to see better. The Elf had his tail wrapped around a branch with his feet stuck to the underside. The branch had to be twenty feet off the ground.
"Don't you worry about falling? And what are you doing up there anyway?"
Again, the sharp-toothed grin. "Are you worried Katzchen? I will not fall, I promise. I come up here to think. All the blood in my brain quickens the process!"
Kitty shifted her feet and scratched her arm. "I'm not worried. I just wanted to know if you were. And, um, like, what do you think about?"
This time, his smile was a little dreamy and soft. "All kinds of things, and all kinds of people."
"Like who?" Kitty asked innocently.
Kurt blushed a bright shade of red that, if seen in sunlight would have turned him an interesting shade of purple. As it was, it was to dark for Kitty to see.
"Would you like to try, Kitty?" Effectivly changing the subject, he teleported to her side.
"Try What?" As soon as she had squeaked out those two words, he had a firm grip on her arms and BAMF! teleported them both back to his hanging spot. She let out a strangled yelp and tightly grabbed his arm.
"Kurt!"
"Don't worry, Katzchen. You won't fall while I'm here." He planted her feet firmly next to him on the branch and wrapped his tail around her waist. He kept a firm grip on her arm and another arm around her shoulder.
She was shaking hard. "I think I'm going to puke, Elf."
He patted her hair. "No, you won't. Just take a deep breath and smell the air. It always smells different from this perspective."
Kitty shakily breathed in. "No, No, deeeep. Like this." He sucked in a huge lungful of air and ended up choking on it. After his coughing fit passed, he grinned. "See, just like that."
She chuckled lightly and drew in a deep breath. The air really DID smell better like this. Maybe it was the blood rushing to her head. Maybe it was the company. She turned her head and glanced at her Fuzzy Elf's face. His eyes were closed and a contented smile crossed his face as he thought his thoughts. She felt a sudden urge to reach out and feel his downy cheek. She held it in check and simply stared at him.
She and Kurt had been in the X-Men for a year now. They had battled dangerous villians, psycos, and the plain out baddies. So many times, one or more of her friends had come close to dieing. Even she had had a few close calls. But Kurt, Kurt seemed to be a magnet for pain. He was still a little overconfident in his ability to escape any situation, even after numerous visits to the infirmary. Just last week he had taken a bullet in the end of his tail. He had stared sullenly at the large ball of bandages wrapped around it for an entire day, saying they made him look like a deranged Pokemon.
He had finally snapped his tail quickly, throwing the bandages acrossed the room, and Bamfed out of there before Jean could come after him with more. Kitty smiled softly at the memory, and looked down.... er...up at the end of his tail, that was waving softly in the breeze surrounding them. There was a perfectly circular scar right in the center. She tentivly took on hand off of gripping his arm and traced the edge of the scar gently. She drifted off into other thoughts while still fingering the tail softly.
There had of course been the love triangles and crushes in the group. Jean kept insisting Kurt had a thing for Kitty. She just didn't believe it. If Kurt liked anyone, Kitty thought it had to be Rouge. They just got along so well. Of course, Rouge was Scott's girl now. It had ticked off Jean for a while, but now she was content with her football quaterback boyfriend. She had been crushing on Scott there for a while, but gave it up when she realized that boy had a stick the size of California stuck up his.... eh-hem. Anyway, she got over it. She and Evan had gone out a couple times, but he just didn't have what she wanted. He was funny, but he didn't listen when she had a problem, and he didn't appear without warning, and the lack of a tail had really gotten to her.
Yep, it was official, she had a crush on Nightcrawler. Who just happened to be her best friend. Who just happened to seem to have no interest in her at all. Who just happened to have his tail wrapped around her and his warm body pressed to her side. Yeah, not good friend thoughts were flying through her head. Thoughts involving her, Kurt, and his mouth doing something other than smiling at her. That's as far into detail as I can get, it is PG here. Hmmm, maybe her, Kurt, and a nice dark dance hall with a techno song pounding it's way into her bones as she danced nice and close with her Elf..... Woah! Slow down girl. HER Elf? She was already taken possesion, and that was just her dream Elf there.
She sighed lightly and drifted back to the real world. To find Nightcrawler looking at her face silently and thoughtfully. She was still slightly dreamy eyed from her thoughts and she asked sleepily, "How long have you been staring at me?"
He also looked dreamily sleepy. "Few minutes. Have a good dream? You were smiling a beautifully happy smile." His tail flicked out of her fingers and brushed off a piece of hair that had been stuck on her lip. It fell to hang straight down like the rest of it.
She smiled and went back to rubbing circles his tail. "Yeah, good dreams all around. We'll have to do this more often."
He looked happy. "Anytime you would like to Katzchen, anytime."
The urge to run her hand acrossed his cheek came again, and she didn't deny it this time.
As her fingers traced down his cheek and acrossed his jawline, his eyes slid shut in bliss. She repeated the motion back and forth for a few seconds before she leaned forward and lightly pressed her lips to his. It was a soft, quick kiss, but it didn't fail to shock Kurt. He lost his grip on the tree and they started to fall. He quickly teleported them to an inch or so off the ground and they landed with soft "oomph"s. They lay side by side for a second or two before Kitty started to giggle. She sat up and lightly punched his shoulder.
"Oh, good job, fuzzy wonder. The kiss wasn't so bad you had to try and kill me, was it?" He just stared at her with his mouth hanging open.
"What? Tounge-tied? Will this princess have to wake the Prince's vocal abilities with a kiss?" She grinned wickedly at him.
He caught on and grinned back. As he pretended to faint on the lawn, he waited for the soft kiss. When it didn't come, he peeked an eye open to see Kitty walking towards the mansion with an evil grin on her face.
He quickly teleported over and tilted her backwards....
Jean smirked as she peeked out the window. She quickly shut the drape as she heard Scott approach behind her. "What are Kitty and Kurt doing?"
She took one last peek and steered Scott in the other direction.
"Oh, just hanging around..."
