Soak cherries, raisins and dates in whiskey at least overnight (a week would be even better).
Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add egg yolks and beat well. Add fruit and whiskey. Gradually stir in flour. Add nutmeg and baking powder, mix well. Lightly flour the pecans and stir in. Fold in whipped egg whites. Pour into a greased cake pan (a tube pan or bundt pan would work well) and bake slowly in a 250 degree oven for 3 to 4 hours. |
