Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Sift together the flour, baking powder and salt. Mix well with the shortening and milk until it forms a dough. (If it is too dry, add a little more milk.) Turn dough out onto a floured board. Coat hand with flour and knead the dough for a few minutes. Flatten the dough on the board until it is about 3/4 inch thick. Cut out rounds using a biscuit cutter. Gather the remaining scraps of dough into a ball and flatten again and continue cutting biscuit rounds. Place the rounds on an ungreased cookie sheet (they should be just touching each other, this keeps the sides of the biscuits soft.) Bake for 10 minutes at 450 degrees. |
