A. The Player chosen to play RCS Sound Track

I have adopted the Microsoft Windows Media Player and .wma file format for our soundtrack files.

B. Rationales of Adopting Windows Media Player:

1. As each computer is unique after softwares are loaded, to allow most of our members to listen

to our sound tracks , I have to decide on the most common format to encode the songs . As over 95% of

PCs are using Microsoft's Windows Operating System, the decision to use Windows Media Player

is a choice of convenience .

2. The WMA (Windows Media Audio) format was made by Microsoft corporation in response to

MP3 audio format. Microsoft itself claims that the sound quality of Windows Media Audio files (.wma files)

should be the same for a file that is only half the size of an MP3 file. Encoding

WMA is however very fast (not so much slowly than Xing’s MP3 encoder).

And now WMA format becomes more popular, and I think that it’ll become the

most popular due to the marketing position of Microsoft. You can learn more about WMA format at:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/overview/default.asp

3. There are other free or commercial players. My adoption of the player

does not mean I agree MediaPlayer is the best but rather

it is most optimal for our members.

C. Free Download of Windows Media Player

You need Windows Media Player 7.1 for Windows 98 , 2000, XP & ME

Windows Media Player 6.4 for Windows 95

To download , just click the following link, the download size is over 10Mbytes.

D. Quality of Sound Track

The following criteria are used in the encoding:

Songs less than 3.5 minutes are coded with Near CD Quality (64KB/s Stereo)

Songs more than 3.5 minutes are coded with Modem Stereo Quality (56Kb/s Stereo)

These are hardly differentiable with most people's ears when they are played back.
