My Saviour

We had a wonderful dinner at an interesting vegetarian
restaurant. The restaurant was a buffet with a cornucopia of vegetarian dishes. We sampled a broad variety of the dishes and desserts while sharing it amongst ourselves. The atmosphere was jovial as we pigged out. The meal and the laughter were indeed hearty and robust. I remember eating at that restaurant many years earlier without any inkling that I would ever be back there under such vastly different circumstances. In a matter of hours my life would never be the same and yet I felt like I didn't have a care in the world. Once we finished our dinner they drove me back to the residence where our ebullience would certainly be confronted.
I invited everyone inside once we got back to the residence.
As we walked in the door we were greeted by Linda, another one of the caretakers. She went right up to my youngest sister and started telling her that she was going to move her out of the basement away from Eva and into a room upstairs. The look on my sister's face was priceless as she wondered what was transpiring amidst the confusion. I was standing behind Linda as I tapped her on the shoulder and told her that she had mistaken my sister for me! We all burst into laughter and my sister definitely felt relieved. I had practically begged Linda and Lise to move me away from my roommate. Not only was I supposed to endure a room with her before the surgery, but we were going to be sharing a room at the hospital and we were scheduled to share a room back at the residence after the sugery. Those prospects were unappealing at best. Lise knew I was desparate to have some peace of mind after the surgery. Linda turned out to be my saviour that night. She arranged to put me in a room upstairs by myself for Saturday night and she told me they would move my belongings into another room once I arrived back from the hospital. I was extremely grateful to her and that started a wonderful friendship for the rest of my stay there. Linda seemed a little gruff on the outside, but I would eventually discover her charm and empathy.
