Regalaire Cresteds has always been committed with a vision to create a strain of Chinese Cresteds that in our opinion would breed true to the breed's written standard. We obtained our first Chinese Crested in 1991 and in 1994, purchased our foundation bitch, Starjack's Hannah, who was largely from foundation stock just under 11 inches. Hannah was an excellent true hairless, with good conformation and a good background. We spent two years looking for such a bitch. Her background and her gene pool was as important as her qualities to consider for our vision and goals.
We have done our very best to protect the gene pool of Regalaire dogs. You will find Starjack's Hannah and her daughter, Ch. Regalaire's Lotus Flower, and also her son, Ch. Regalaire's Moon Walker, are in the beginning foundation of Regalaire Chinese Crested pedigrees. We have NEVER bred to a hairy hairless, male or female. We have had only a few good hairless get with patches of short, thin, fuzz - no definite typical hair - yet good crest, plume and socks, but never any heavy hairy hairless. The standard does not indicate in any manner that a hairless with a massive crest (which does not include the withers, upper ribs and shoulders) plume or heavy socks is a better dog than one with sparser furnishings. The true Hairless does not include a mane or shawl hanging from the withers, upper ribs and shoulders, or sides of the neck.
We are a small dedicated kennel, producing only one to three litters a year which are planned years ahead depending upon the outcome of the expected breedings. We have been breeding and showing purebred dogs under the name of REGALAIRE for 55 years. We have never desired to be in dogs to race for a great number of champions or for a source of income. OUR PLEDGE TO THE BREED and to THE AMERICAN CHINESE CRESTED CLUB is to always do our best and to have as our conviction a commitment to improve the quality of the Chinese Crested breed and to breed to the AKC written standard.
Being 85 years of age, we find we cannot really enjoy the actual showing like we have for so many years and find it difficult getting up and down to do justice to the dog in the show ring. We find we must cut back on driving long distances in our motor home; however, we still plan on attending as many specialties as we possibly can and to continue to do a few well planned, choice breedings.
We thank you for visiting our wonderful website and hope that you enjoy it and our dogs.
