Some tips you could do for yourself:
- Enroll yourself into parenting classes.
They are required by law to provide you with services. Of course they do retain the right to suggest to the court that you may not qualify for classes. - Make your attorney work for you.
If you have a "Public Defender", you may find that you will have to do a lot of the foot-work yourself.
1. "Public Defenders" have multiple cases to handle daily.
2. "Public Defenders" are paid by the county not you, so you may find that they may suggest or advise you to plea or strike a deal instead of fight. - If it's a medical misdiagnosis, get a second opinion.
You may find it difficult to get a second opinion within the same county. If this is the case, you can obtain court orders to retrieve another doctor from another county. There is also a list of doctors that counties keep handy for that particular purpose. You should ask your attorney if this is an interest to you. - DON'T GIVE UP!!!
What ever you do don't give up and dont give in. If you truely are innocent, Which only you and God know, No plea's!! Even when your attorney suggests it!! Remember "Public Defenders" have many cases daily, and unfortunately don't get into every case personally. They don't know to fight, so you'll have to make them know.
They will try to wear you out though. Try your patients, make you mad, and push your limits to give them more and more of a case against you. Cause then you have an anger problem. Or maybe even easier if you just give up.
Also a little thing CPS hates. Is when you have any Indian blood in you. Contact your tribe, and get them involved. When you have Indian blood, it takes the whole case to a Federal level. Rather then a state level. Which means, they have to prove 75% that you did it. Rather then about 50%. They can even take over the case completely. If they choose to intervene.

To take it to a national level. Here's what you can do. Right now there is currently a national lawsuit against CPS. Here's where you can go.

You will be able to write to them either individually or all at the same time.***)not yet available here** We have information that federal level legislators have deleted their email unread. Please send snail-mail or faxes to legislators, as often as you can. Try these websites for federal legislative information and addresses:

To find your state representatives, try http://congress.org. Click on "Elected Officials" and then on your state in the map of the USA. If you send email to a lot of people from that website, remember to un-check the box asking for copies sent to your email in-box, otherwise you may be overwhelmed with copies of your own email!
Also, for finding official government websites in your state, try: Yahoo's State Listings. Click on your state, then on "government". Find your legislature's website(s) and get to know everything about it. Learn how to find pending bills. Find out who your state representatives are and study their websites.
Write to your legislators about pending bills you find and about how you feel about the child welfare system. If you are experiencing a current problem, let them know that you need their help. Legislators are often able to help their constituents in ways we might not know of.
Send your legislators a copy of A Call For Change. Write your legislators a message about how you feel about child welfare services, then add A Call For Change to the bottom of the message.
Cut and paste instructions for PC's: To copy A Call For Change from the web page, put your mouse cursor on the poem. Click on your right-side mouse button, and a menu should appear. Choose "select all" then right click again and choose "copy". Go to the legislative contact form or your email, and putting your cursor where you want the poem, hold down the "shift" key while pressing on the "insert" key. You can also find the "select all", "copy" and "paste" commands in your "Edit" menu at the top of the browser screen.
Make sure you put the most important information at the beginning of any letter and again at the end because legislators will not go thru and read the entire letter, and if by chance they do--they'll only remember the beginning and the end.
Most of the time--these types of letters are never read, addressed and are tossed aside. He said you have to literally shove things down their throats and hound and hound and hound.
