First off I will let you know, they are NOT your friend. No matter how nice they talk to you. You will later find out that things you say will be twisted in the worst way. So soon as CPS comes knocking at your door USE YOUR CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS!
If they dont have a warrant, dont let them in. Only let them see the children through the window if they absolutely insist. If you let them in, even to speak with you, then you waive your rights! But I promise you, they WILL try to get in. And they are not only just trying to talk to you about their concerns, but they are looking around your home as you talk. So just dont let them in your home. You may notice that thier eyes wonder quite a bit even through the door. This is your first indication that they are not your friends, rather they are on a mission from the start to "paint a picture".
Another tactic they may, use is to go to your childs school and interrigate them alone. They will lead, preasure even deceive them into thinking it's ok. Most the time you will not even know your child has been spoken to.
Even if you dont have an attorney, dont speak with them without one. If your under arrest or going to be charged with something, you will have one appointed to you. But until then DO NOT waive your 5th amendment. (The right to be silent). Even if you aren't under arrest, dont talk anyways!
Most tactic's CPS will use is to want to take you down to the police station, "just to talk". What they dont tell you is they are interrigating you, without being under arrest. They will even record and video tape you without you even knowing. And sometimes go as far and say you admitted to the allegation. Cause they will twist, or even make up statements.

Must a police officer always advise a person of their Miranda rights before asking a question?
No. The Miranda warning is only in effect during a "custodial interrogation." This means that the person being questioned is in custody or in an environment in which the person does not believe that he is free to leave. In other words "Under Arrest".
"Taking the 5th" is NOT just for courtroom drama TV!
Nor is it just for slime balls subpoenaed to appear before Congressional Hearings...
