Perpendicular
Times have changed so they say.
Strange seem the customs of yesterday.
Progressing, in our new technological age.
Turning, writing another page,
In the book of time.

Compare and contrast,
The future to past.
What to expect from tomorrow?
Weve so much convenience yet so much sorrow.
We call ourselves civilized.

Politically correct yet keeping tabs on minorities.
Were so free but obey so many authorities.
The slaves of green cotton paper.
Impatience is abundant, along with procrastination.
No more trust or delayed gratification.

Oblivious to the needs of others,
No one looks out for his or her brother.
We steal and deceive, deny and perceive,
Require ID to believe,
Hypocrisy is our way.

Seldom do people appreciate the arts or nature.
Constantly reading the bad news in the paper.
Lies and pessimism run free.
Rumors, discrimination, and hatred stream.
A helpless soul screams.

Endowed with a superficial social class.
A tool to build people up, become their mask.
Worst of all, the false senses of superiority.
When we all were created equally.
Why do we quarrel so?

We came into this world with nothing.
We will leave this world with nothing.
Yet our soul concern is for those things personal,
While ignoring those things ethical.
We have evolved into fools
.
take me home.
help me change the world.
give me ideas
enlighten yourself.
