September 11th

A busy New York street
Always hectic but inevitably calm
A road full of cars
But rich in security
The promise of another orderly day
Shattered by two towers
That burst into flame
A sky marked by smoke,
Fire, and bending steel
A nation panics
Tears are unable to drown
Fears that grow and
Encompass our hearts in darkness
Death and destruction shake us,
Break us down
And we fear hateful cowards
That would dare to call the
Deaths of thousands
A religious sacrifice
Only to refuse to be punished
For a thing that is so clearly sin
