Liking

Yes, I like him,
And sure, he's cute.
Maybe I have a chance...
But nothing will ever happen,
He's perfect, popular,
And me, I'm one of the geeks.

I find myself next to you,
And I see,
You're perfect for me.
Same hobbies, same friends,
But there's just one problem...
She likes you, too.

I read your poem,
And I was amazed
At how I had doubted you.
You share my interests,
God, how I'd kill
To have you for my own

She's got a thing for you
Since sixth grade
It's been there
So what can I do?
There's no room to choose
It's her, or you

Chances are,
You're not the one for me
We'll part eventually
But what about her?
She's my only friend
I need her

And yet,
I can't help it.
I like you, too,
And I want
To know you better.
You're a kindred spirit

Isn't she, though?
Doesn't she appreciate
Writing, poetry, the arts?
Sure, she does
And she sticks by me...
So why am I discontent?

Maybe she's my friend,
But she's also hard
To be around.
She doesn't care as much
As you do.
I'd like to be with you.

What can I do?
Yeah, I like you
But she does too.
Maybe we could be friends?
We could share our poems,
And discuss our books.

I guess I'll give up
And wait for her
To find someone new
And maybe then,
When we're best of friends
I could love you, too.
