Concert

Low neck, long skirt
Feet crammed into
Little black heels
Stepping clumsily
Into the waiting car.
Hands shaking as
She enters the building,
Ill-prepared for
The nervous trembles.
Wait awhile for
The show to begin,
More long skirts
All around her.
Finally it's time.
She quietly moves
To her proper place
And follows her peers
Into the hallway.
Surprising herself,
She silences the
Pesky talkers in
The back of the line.
It's time for the
Big show; best be
On her best behavior.
Puts on her best smile
As she walks out,
Shielding her eyes
Against the audience.
Perfectly composed,
She's on her stage
And that's when
The music begins.
Notes and lyrics
Give her confidence,
And she sings,
The words coming
Easily from her lips.
Congratulations,
They tell her,
And finally she sees
She catches ears
When she sings
And though she's
The quiet one
Everyone could hear
Her singing the songs.
