| The Battle of the Sexes Nestled tween mountains a festival grew Lords and ladies broke out their dancing shoes. Their bucolic dreamings realized that day In buoyant proceedings happy and gay. In the midst of such mirth weeping arose- A courtier dead for daring interpose In a quarrel between despondent lovers who tried keeping infidelity under cover. The guard was then called- they came two-by-two, the hotheaded murderer would soon get his dues. The crowd became restless- whalebone gainst tails Their arguments on ethics soon rose to wails. What was right for one sex was wrong for another Their compelling appeals turned sisters against brothers. Sexes of all ranks debated far into the night. Still undecided, a challenge was called to decide superiority once and for all. They devised tests of brute strength, tests of endurance and for wits sake, measured intelligence. They compared and contrasted each sex, only to find results guaranteed to vex. Though obvious in differences, so clear it became: greater the distinction, the more the same! 22 April 2002 Vicki Somers |
