| Search A melody rips forth from my being like a tarnished childhood dream I walk the dark streets late at night Just because I can. I am fearless in this death wish. I call upon the stars to guide this misguided vessel Never reaching a destination, though I have traveled far and long. I try to seek the unseekable truth in east mountains and mid-summer sunsets; But I am only dazzled by their beauty. Is there no answer out there? I watch the old men in the bars, the drunks. What are they thinking in their liquor-high? Do they see unnamable beauty in the glow of electric lights and dingy barstools? Maybe all they seek is right before them- a beer and the reflection of a wasted life leering up at them from the vanished counter top. ~Vicki Somers 2001 |
