Return to the Tower
Geisha

Shes gliding and swaying   Barefoot
across the hardwood floor
Raven hair river flowing freely around her being,
almond colored eyes fixed up toward the gleaming sky.
Her skin like porcelain in the candlelight
And she sings, not caring who hears,
about past victories and defeats.
Let the world hear:
I am flesh, I am blood , my tears are for sorrow,
my tears are for joy.
Let the world know
I fell in love with the people I thought
would treat me right              and not
the ones who treated me right.
let the world know that I hate Sundays and my lack of respect,
and that I fell in love with the waitress Janie from the bar
just because she had been through so much,
and still could smile.

And now I see her in a different light
No longer a child,
much too young to be a woman, despite
hardships faced in her short life time.
Guilt engulfs me-
How could I derive such pleasure
from the company of a woman
who never had a choice?
