Infidelity
Look at me
I am more beautiful
and more terrible than you ever dreamt
me to be;
I am fierce in this pain.
The embodiment of strength,
experience through loss-
you cannot have me.
That right- nay, that priveledge-
you foreited
in a single unthinking act.
Love may be cruel
but betrayal is ruthless,
and in yours I have been lost.
To say I never loved you would be fallacy,
to grant forgiveness a greater one still.
It is not pride that makes me refuse you,
nor sorrowful anger.
It is my newfound lack of faith in you,
you who broke the most sacred of trusts
In one selfish moment.
Pity to shatter something so wonderously frail;
All you are left with now are broken pieces
of our ruined dreams.
