They don't smoke WHY? Well, besides killing more than 160,000 women a year (that's right), smoking can also cause broken capillaries (usually on your face); dull, grayish-looking skin; deep lines around the mouth; yellow teeth and nails; stinky fingers; and the worst breath ever (need I say more?) There's even something people refer to as "smoker's face"-- and sister, it is not pretty! Oh, and those models and actresses that smoke? Not to be rude, but you haven't seen them without the airbrushing! Tip: If you usually find yourself lighting up because you're bored, try developing a new-- less destructive-- diversion (preferably something that uses your hands): Grab a sketch book and doodle, make a batch of oatmeal raisin cookies, or boot up the computer and suft the net.
They treat food as fuel WHY? Okay, so you down Swedish Fish and soda all day and still look great, right? Then think about what you'd look like if you added healthy foods-- like an apple, a slice of whole-grain bread, and some sushi to your diet. (Look out, Halle Berry!) See, to make the most of your hair, skin and nails, you've got to feed them the best possible stuff-- like protein (soy and lean meats), fruits and veggies (especially dark, leafy ones), and whole grains (like brown rice). Skip 'em and you'll never know your beauty potential (how sad!). Tip: I won't bore you with what you've already heard in healtyh class, but I will suggest you start viewing each meal as a chance to get shinier hair, smoother skin, and stronger nails. It may sound a little vain, but hey, so what-- if it works!
They love themselves WHY? In case you haven't noticed, there is a connection between your looks and your emotions. When you're laughing (or just really happy), your heart pumps faster and your blood circulates more quickly (and you know all the good things that does for your body). Plus, feeling good usually makes you stand upstraighter, smile more and look people in the eye. (Basically, it makes you more fun to be around-- and that's a beautiful thing.) Tip: To put your head in that happy place every day, surroung yourself with things that say, "I'm pretty fabulous." I'm talking pictures of you with your friends, an award-- even a letter (to you, from you) that lists all your amazing qualities. It'll help you see yourself the way others see you. And trust me, you're pretty great.
