Valentines

Ahh Valentines day!
I can remember the very first time I saw a heart-shaped candy box in a shop window and from that moment, I sensed a mystery, which was somehow beyond a childs grasp. It was something which awaited and beckoned.
I've read that 85% of valentines cards are purchased by women and as comiserating as it seems, it's something of a comfort to know that I was not unique in this girlish anticipation.
Later, as a florist I learned to see Valentines Day through the eyes of my male clients ...poor dear things! hmmm...stories best left for the time being.
I continue to be amazed at the significance and pressure we assign to valentines day. It seems to me to embody peer pressure. I wonder why this day makes us so crazy, that we either love it...or hate it?
