Cadavre Exquis
The Exquisite Corpse
An exquisite corpse was a drawing ot writing game played by the early Surrealist artists. One artist would begin a drawing, or writ one line of verse and then fold over the paper hiding all but a portion of it. The next artist would continue the drawing or verse from there, fold the paper again and pass it along. The technique celebrated the mistique of accident and yielded the metaphoric displacement which is a characteristic of surrealism.
