The Big Bloom

An amazing amount of rain fell this year in California. While the saturated ground was treacherous for many communities it also made for some spectacular wildflower displays. The most notable being in Death Valley. The carpets of desert flowers were not as lush as their cousins on the coast, but the vibrant hues, leafy flowering plants, birds, butterflies snowcaps and standing water were a startling contrast with the physical and mental images of the second hottest desert in the world. The romance of it was irresistible.
