Passionate Variations
July 12th, mark the birthdays of two of our favorite writers. Henry David Thoreau and Pablo Neruda. In some ways they were opposite in the aproach. Neruda lived a very complex life and expressed his thoughts in a style which is intimate, emotional and sensual. Thoreau persued utopian simplicity and embraced humanistic truths. Both men lived fully and deliberately. Each followed his passions, both privately and politically and did not compromise his voice.

Henry David Thoreau 1817-1862
LTS asked me to write an introduction to this series. I can only smile! I think during one of our first chats I may have inadvertently quoted Thoreau and this simple act may have initiated one of the most inspiring friendships I have come to know. Thoreau was in love with simplicity and the basic human rights of man and he did not hesitate to stand up for his beliefs. To me Thoreau epitomizes simplicity. Principled! He had deep convictions, so much so that his writings inspired and influenced both Gandhi and Martin Luther King.

Simply Thoreau
This site is a gem! And is so extensive that the other sites we've browsed seem superfluous.
Pablo Neruda (1904-1973)
...You can say anything you want, yessir, but it's the words that sing, they soar and descend...I bow to them...I love them, I cling to them, I run them down, I bite into them, I melt them down...I love words so much...The unexpected ones...The ones I wait for greedily or stalk until, suddenly, they drop...
Photographic Vision
My original intent was to locate articles about revitalizing one's vision and therefore, passion. I found some interesting disscussions which caught my attention, in ways I hadn't expected. Passion often springs from changing perspective and staying open.
