ENGINE SHED
The engine shed and station were built originally for the Midland Railway Company and erected 1892. They were both located on the south side of the Inangahua River at Taipoiti, the then terminus of the line from Stillwater. In 1906/07 when the PWD commenced construction of the line north to Inangahua Junction, following the collapse of the Midland Railway Company, both the engine shed and station were located to their current northern sites on the other side of the river. The engine shed was dismantled and re-erected, the station was shifted in three sections, the veranda and the two building halves . The Single stall engine shed int he Reefton Railway yard has been extensivly restored. Much of the original timber was replaced and new steam chutes were installed as part of the restoration work.
