Summary: Not everyone is convinced that Archer's decision to simply take the warp coil from the strangers' ship was right.

Author's Notes: I always used to think that Reed might forgive Jon almost everything. But only almost. Where is the borderline? And will Jon be forgiven?

"I can't believe you did this."

"I had no choice."

Jon's voice sounded tired. He'd had this discussion over and over again. T'Pol, Trip, even Hoshi...and now Malcolm of all people.

All he wanted now was to lay down and rest by the side of his lover. In his embrace. Forget the universe outside for just one night.

But Malcolm stared at him, an expression of disbelief in his beautiful eyes. Jon reached out for him but Malcolm moved back. Out of his reach.

"Do you really believe that?"

"Malcolm, please. I did it for earth."

"You DO believe that."

Accusation, hurt and disbelief clear in his voice. Malcolm bowed his head, staring down at his feet. He seemed very hard to try and find the right words. Finally he looked up again, gazing directly in Jon's eyes.

"I am sure, Sir, one day you'll be able to believe what you said today. If you repeat it often enough. I really should go. Good night, Captain."

Every word cut through Jon's heart like a knife until he almost winced in pain. Once more he reached out for Malcolm but he was already gone.

The closing of the door was definite.
