Walt Parazaider Compositions:  A Review
From Chicago II:  "It Better End Soon - 2nd Movement" (Co-written with Robert Lamm)

This chart probably has the best rip-your-heart-out flute performances Walt has on record.  Here, he evokes with his flute the emotion and frustration Terry Kath brought out with his vocals in the previous movement.

The way he pulls it off is also brilliant, in that he doesn't just slap you in the face with it from the get-go.  He starts with a quiet, tense feeling of anticipation, and allows the feeling to build.  By the time the horns come in with their quintuplet licks, Walt comes in with all the force of a tornado.

Even if we didn't have the advantage of having heard the lyrics from the first movement, the intonation within Walt's phrasings, together with his vocalizing, lets you know perfectly well that he doesn't care much for whatever it is that's happening around him, and - whatever it is - it had "better end soon."

As far as instrumental interpretations of messages previously expressed with words, it doesn't get any better than this.
