2002-2003 Season

The Wings are poised once again to have a great year and a sucessful postseason. The only departure is Dominik Hasek. Frankly, I didn't like Hasek too much because of his style. He give the top of the net away too much, and that allows for too many goals. Now, the Wings have a much better goalie in my opinion, Curtis Joseph (Cujo). The Wing are also returning verterns, such as Lidstrom, McCarty, Hull, Robataille, Cujo, Larionov, and various others. Still, the age isn't too much of a weakness for the Wings as they proved last year, with the oldest average team winning a Cup. The Wings also have a strong younger base. These players are lead by Dandenault, who was with the Wings when they won the 1997 Cup. Also, Fisher, Datsuyk, and a rookie, Zetburg will supply youth this year. Fisher, Dandenault, and Datsuyk were integral parts of the Red Wing machine last year. Contributing thier talents all year. They showed a little bit of how the Wings will be a good team for years to come. I expect the Wings to be good this year. There is only one key player that they will be missing for the most part of the season, at least until January. This player is the leader, Captian, Steve Yzerman. Steve had reconstructive knee surgery for the knee that was bothering him. He will take a while to recover, and if he makes a full recovery, expect him to once again lead the Wings into the playoffs. 1
