Who are we?
The Master Gardeners of North Alabama (MGNA) support various community projects on behalf of the Alabama Cooperative Extension System and its Madison County Extension Office. MGNA volunteers operate the Compost Demonstration Area at the Huntsville-Madison County Botanical Garden. In October 2000, volunteers Jerry Redus and Susan Hessler presented a 2-hour class called "Vermiculture - Kitchen Worm Bins" at the Garden, which was very well-received.
Susan Hessler is a senior member of the Society for Technical Communication (STC) who provided writing and media support to this project as part of her graduate work at the University of Alabama. She served as MGNA co-chair of the Compost Demonstration Area in 2000.
Daniel Hessler is a member of the International Sculpture Center and other arts organizations. Since 1997, he has raised millions of worms and produced thousands of pounds of compost and vermicompost for the Garden and friends. He served as MGNA co-chair of the Compost Demonstration Area in 2000.
Jerry Redus is retired from NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center. He now teaches monthly composting classes for Operation Green Team in Huntsville, Alabama. A longstanding member of MGNA, he will serve as chairman of the Compost Demonstration Area in 2001.
