The Cherokee Citizenship Application of James A. EAST James A. East applied for admittion to the final rolls of the Cherokee Nation of Indian Territory. Since then, the indian territory has been merged or married into the State of Oklahoma. The Cherokee Nation still exists in Oklahoma and has its own tribal government. Due to a lack of verifiable information and a lasp in contact with Mr. East, the application had been rejected. Had the information been accepted, Mr. East would have become a citizen of the Cherokee Nation and would have most likely came to Oklahoma to live. In any case, it is one of the few genealogical records to give a hint of the ancestry of the Paschal RICE family and is important to my genealogical ties..

Kennett twp of Dunklin County Missouri, USA is a reoccurring location in the Paxton and Rice genealogies. My grandfather was renamed Kenneth, a form of Kennett. Bowman PAXTON was lynched a short distance from Kennett, Missouri at a place north of Malden, Missouri, USA. Jaley A. East ( nee as Jaley A. RICE ) is established to have been Jaley Ann Brown of a 1817 marriage bond of Wilson County, Tennessee. The firsh husband was Elijah RICE who is expected to be the father or grandfather of Paschal RICE.

Mr. East tries to relate the degree of indian in family and makes his "mark". The second date is of no importance as it is just a date to show that the notary is in force during the signing of the document.

This page is a witness to John EAST being the father of James A. EAST and that Mr. EAST was indeed married to Mary E. ( DAUGHTERY ). The 1870 US Census of Dunklin County, Missouri, USA reveals that the Paschal RICE family was living with the Doherty as a family together. A daughter apparently married one of the Doherty boys, had children of her own, but yet raised some of the Paschal RICE children.

| In the above application it is important to remember that political districts were more likely to be identified rather than actual residences. So, since he mentions Dell, Arkansas, let's have a look at a map of the area: | |||||||||||||||

In John EAST's application, he mentioned that his half brother was Paschal RICE. That implies that there had to be proximity between the two at some point in their lives. The James EAST application states that John and Jaley EAST lived at Dell, Arkansas, USA in 1851. The US Census of year 1860 lists the Pascal RICE family at the area called Big Lake, Arkansas which is now in Mississippi County, Arkansas, USA. As you can see in the map, Big Lake is east of Dell, Arkansas, USA.
