She Got a Little Lost
She got a little lost today.
Her confidence, some of it just
a front to begin,
was devoured by insecurity
and as it grew took a firm
hold  to consume her from within.
All she desired moved just beyond
reach, the more she pursued the
farther it strayed,
mocking her failure, taunting
her sincerity sabotaging every plan
she made.
She stumbled over herself clumsily,
her feet firmly planted in some sort
of glue.
She invested all she had with no
return; seemed she couldn't
accomplish anything she set out to.
She turned inward to anchor herself
as outwardly she screamed;
searching self with open eyes
learning that even she
wasn't what she seemed.
Her sense of self had been
invaded, stolen by unfamiliar
presence, leaving only
confusion in its place.
Lost, she wandered aimlessly
out of strength and new direction,
she collapsed feeling
drops of rain become tears
trickling down her face.
Getting lost wasn't even the worst
of today's  nightmarish escapade.
When finally she found home and
stepped inside, no one was there
waiting, worrying, or praying she'd
find her way back to arms open wide.
