24 - Ramirez, Manny
Outfielder/Designated Hitter
Height: 6-0 Weight: 205 lbs. Throws: Right Bats: Right Born: May 30, 1972, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic Scouting Report 2000 Season Despite missing 44 games with a left hamstring injury, Manny Ramirez hit .351 and drove in 122 runs in 118 games. In the last two seasons, Ramirez has amassed 287 RBI in 265 games. He missed 39 games with his hamstring, and the Indians went 19-20 and fell out of the American League Central race. When he returned to the cleanup spot after the break, the Tribe went 46-30. In Ted Williams-like fashion, Ramirez hit a 452-foot homer in his final at-bat as an Indian. Hitting No one makes better contact on a greater variety of pitches than Ramirez. He can do it all with the bat, hitting for average, power and production. He is particularly effective against lefthanders. High fastballs and hard sliders away give him problems, but he hits just about everything else. The thing about Ramirez is that he hits the ball to all field with authority. He has a tension-free swing. Hitting coaches call it slow feet and quick hands. Baserunning & Defense People think Ramirez is a one-dimensional player, but he's a solid right fielder with a good, accurate arm. He has a deceiving stride that makes it look like he's not running hard, but he can track balls down in the gap and make plays going towards the line. He's improved on the bases, but it was hard to tell that last year because he spent most of his time running with a limp.
