7 - Nixon, Trot
outfielder
Height: 6-2 Weight: 200 lbs. Throws: Left Bats: Left Born: April 11, 1974 Scouting Report Hitting Nixon is an exceptionally patient hitter who almost always looks over a pitch or two before offering. Since he winds up in so many two-strike counts, it was an important development last season when he learned to protect the plate without sacrificing power. Though he gets good lift and hits the ball hard to all parts of the field, his home-run power runs from dead center to the right-field line. He finally got a chance to face southpaws during the second half of 2001, but still hasn't proven he can hit them. Baserunning & Defense Playing Fenway's right field requires a center fielder's range, and that's why Nixon is so valuable there and wasn't overextended when moved to center. Though his foot speed is average, he gets good jumps, runs good routes and always hustles. His strong arm and ability to play the caroms are assets in right. He's an alert, aggressive baserunner who rarely makes bad decisions.
