18 - Damon, Johnny
outfielder
Height: 6-2 Weight: 190 lbs. Throws: Left Bats: Left Born: November 5, 1973 Scouting Report Hitting A true professional in all aspects of his game, Damon is a dedicated worker who comes to play every day. As a leadoff hitter, getting on base is imperative. Damon's hit total dropped in 2001, but his batting eye and patience remained intact. While he sprays the ball and relies on the little game, Damon also can turn on a pitch, displaying surprising power. He's committed to playing the best he can, never complains, and never said a negative word during his early season struggles at the plate last year. Baserunning & Defense Speed is another important part of Damon's total package. He's a daring runner on the bases, able to steal a bag, take an extra one, and score lots of runs. Even though Damon's offensive numbers tailed in 2001, he still scored over 100 times. He is tremendous defensively and can make highlight plays as often as anyone. His return to center field after the A's acquired Jermaine Dye seemed to stabilize Damon's offense last season. While he batted .283 as a center fielder, his average fell to .222 otherwise.
