19 - Burkett, John
pitcher
Height: 6-3 Weight: 215 lbs. Throws: Right Bats: Right Born: November 28, 1964 Scouting Report Pitching, Defense & Hitting The key to Burkett's success was improved conditioning that resulted in greater arm strength and allowed him to go deeper in games. He also emulated Maddux by throwing his two-seam fastball with excellent movement about 75 percent of the time, which enabled him to get ahead in counts. He kept hitters off-balance by mixing speeds with his solid cut fastball, mediocre curveball and four-seam fastball. Burkett led the NL in pickoff throws to first base. He didn't commit an error, but he is a marginal fielder who does not do a good job covering first base. He is nothing special as a hitter.
