LADIES 2nd TEAM CLAIM PLAY-OFF POSITION
As the season draws to its conclusion Redrice Ladies 2nd Team have guaranteed themselves 3rd place in Division III. They have just missed out on one of the two automatic promotion places but they will have a play-off match against the team finishing third from bottom in Division II. The team, sponsored by Melting Pot, finished their league matches off with two victories and one narrow defeat. Away at fourth placed Winchester III Angela Riggs (1) played a captains role as she won the deciding tie 9/7 in the fifth game. Earlier, Sally Biles (2) and Lori Channon (3) had both won 3-0 and 3-2, respectively. Jenny Matthias (4) and Sally Moore (5) also had 3-0 and 3-2 score-lines, respectively. However, both were in favour of their opponents. At home, against league leaders Milford, the team won emphatically 4-1. Angela Riggs lost at the top of the order but the rest of the team secured victory. Debbie Duffy (2) lost the first game 9/0 but took the next three. Sally Biles (3), Lori Channon (4) and Helen Edwards (5) all won 3-0. Defeat came away at Southampton University. Debbie Duffy (2) and Lori Channon (4) both won 3-0 but Angela Riggs (1) and Chrissie Lindley (5) both lost. The match hinged on the number three strings. Sally Biles trailed by two games but made an excellent recovery to square the match at 2-2. The final game couldn�t have been any closer with Sally losing out by the narrowest of margins 10/9.
Redrice Ladies 1st Team produced another quality performance on the road to a possible 3rd place in Division I. They picked up 17 points in a 4-1 home victory over Petersfield. Sue Williams (1), Debbie Smith (3), Jillian Hall (4) and Karen Sturgess (5) all had 3-0 successes. Ros Hursell (2) succumbed 3-0. The final match of the season is an away trip to Avenue on April 6th.
